MBA Without an Undergraduate Degree? Yes, it's Possible!

M.B.A. (Master of Business Administration) is a tough and expensive graduate degree that usually requires an undergraduate diploma as a prerequisite.

But, believe it or not, there are still a few M.B.A. programs around the country which accept business experience as a substitute for college degree.

1) Southern Methodist University's Cox School of Business in Dallas, Texas. Marci Armstrong, the associate dean for graduate programs, has described the graduate students without undergraduate diplomas as follows: ?I find that these students become very loyal and active alumni. Their executive M.B.A. credential may mean more to them than it does to other students because they don't have an undergraduate degree.? (Wall Street Journal, April 24, 2007)

2) University of North Carolina and Georgia State University are among the other big universities that do accept highly-motivated M.B.A. students with business experience who do not have a formal college education. David Forquer, the head of Georgia State's executive M.B.A. program had nothing but high praise for such students: ?They almost always turn out to be wonderfully engaged students.? In 1998, the top M.B.A. graduate at Georgia State was a non-degree student.

There are also those executive education classes and management certificate programs available for non-degree students that provide quality executive training without, however, awarding an M.B.A. degree. Indiana University's Kelley School of Business is one such school.

CalTech's Industrial Relations Center also do have a good ?Executive Education Program? that you might want to check out.

The Growth Of Online MBA Degrees

Are online MBA degrees less valuable than the MBA degrees that are earned in a classroom environment? It is a million dollar question that is asked by everyone today. MBA degrees online are very expensive and it involves putting huge amounts of money at risk.

Let us take a look at the MBA degrees that are available online. The number of MBA programs online is increasing by the day with the increase in the number of students enrolling for them. Employers today are forced to reconsider their attitude of distance learning. They have to understand that the programs available online are competent enough to produce graduates of the same caliber as in conventional learning environments. Not all the degree-granting MBA courses available online are equal regarding syllabus, instruction and official recognition.

Employers know that not all MBA courses available online are worth the paper that they are printed on. These degrees are issued by ?diploma mills?, which are institutions that charge large sums of money and give worthless education. If you want to do an online MBA degree you must be very clear about the institution you choose. Pursue an MBA degree from a well-known institution that is recognized by the specific regional accrediting authority.

An MBA degree pursued online from a reputed institution will be similar in composition to that which the students pursue by attending classes on campus. Online students make their own schedules, depending on what is more convenient to them, but they will have to pay attention to lectures, read appropriate chapters from other textbooks and also take part in classroom discussions. They will have to spend quite a lot of their time online. Students will be exposed to videoconferences, podcasts and lectures on videotape. Most of these MBA programs online need residency hours - they also need the students to be physically present at important workshops and coursework. The students are required to undergo various tests and pass them while a local proctor is present.

Online MBA degrees are very convenient. Though the coursework and the syllabus will not differ too much, what will be different is that the online students have a lot of flexibility in their schedule. With accelerated online MBA courses, students today are able to finish the course requirements faster than those who sit in conventional classroom environments. These are the most important reasons why students opt for online MBA courses.

Online MBA courses are very often as expensive as the courses that are offered by institutions in conventional classroom environments. As with other degrees too, the costs vary significantly among institutions. The more well known and reputed the institution, the more will be the cost of the degree. The students should be mainly doubtful of an online MBA program if it is priced considerably less than the competitor. This does not mean that the program is a scam or a fraud, but those students who want to pursue an online degree must carefully go through the history of the institution, its credibility and also get information from previous students before enrolling.

To sum up, if your online MBA degree has to be taken seriously by your employer, you have to make sure that you make the right choice and select the right program.

An MBA Degree Online - Is It Worth It?

Now that you've completed you your bachelor degree and have had a few years experience in the business world, it might be just the time for you to consider getting an advanced accredited degree online. Wouldn't it be nice to have an MBA degree? What would an online MBA degree do for your personal satisfaction and your future personal employment possibilities? An online degree has now come of age and many more colleges and universities are offering MBA's online.

Many employers are now accepting accredited online degrees as proof of educational experience. But you have to do your homework before jumping into the online educational pool and be careful of the sharks and piranhas. Some online colleges are worthless but there are many fine, legitimate schools that offer quality education and worthwhile degrees that you can be proud to have worked for. If you are serious about your education stay away from the diploma mills who will grant you an advanced degree in the discipline of your choice for registration fees and the cost of printing your diploma.

Don't get caught up in the hype about how easy it is to get your degree based on "life experience" alone. Life experience can be meaningful, and when paired with previous curricular studies or academic coursework, can be a valuable consideration in granting academic degrees.

Here are three directory websites with good information you can use to check out online colleges:

Check the status and reputation of any school before enrolling for any course of study and before you pay any tuition. The common denominator of any good online college will be the hard work you must perform to earn your MBA degree.

The greatest benefit of any online college is the ability it gives you to continue working while you attend classes online. Under most circumstances you can set your own pace, most schools are very flexible, but at some point you may find that your college requires one or more periods of residence on their campus to attend classes and to fully qualify for your degree.

It goes without saying that the quality of any MBA degree you attain online will be directly related to the amount of good, hard work that you put into achieving that goal.

Online MBA Degrees And Programs

If you are considering getting an online MBA degree you ay wonder if they hold the same value as an MBA that is earned at a traditional university. Online MBA degrees do cost a lot of money, to the tune of thousands of dollars, and this is a large sum of money to pay. You want to be sure that you use this money wisely and that you find a program that is accredited and that will be widely accepted. It is important to find the right program that will offer all you need and also holds a good reputation.

Lately many people have decided to go back to school, and most of them are earning their degrees online. Since so many people are turning to online schools to earn their MBA?s, an employer cannot just turn up his nose at a degree earned online any more. With so many people getting these degrees online people do have to admit that some of them are credible, but it is important to note that not every MBA degree program is credible and some are not near equal to a traditional education for MBA degrees.

You should be aware, as your employer is, that some online programs may offer MBA degrees that are entirely worthless. There are places that will hand out a degree to almost anyone who will give them a tidy sum of money. You need to be sure that you do not fall for these scams and that you find a reputable place to earn your MBA degree from. You should look for a place that is accredited and be sure of what you are getting into before you sign up or pay out any money.

If you are going to get a quality MBA degree online you can expect it to be very much like traditional classes for the same degree. Even though you can do your schooling at times that are convenient for you, you should still be ready to expect to do a lot of reading, to listen to lectures, and to have discussions with other classmates. You can accomplish all of this online using email, video conference, and other great forms of technology. Most MBA degree programs require residencies, so you should be prepared to do these even if you are doing your degree online.

Getting an MBA Degree online is much more convenient, even though you will still have to work hard. You will be able to fit your classes around your schedule, which is a huge bonus. Often you may be able to finish an online degree faster than you ever could have completed a traditional one. Although they are convenient, you will still be investing a lot of money into this degree. Sometimes they will be just as expensive as attending a university would be. If you decide to take classes online to earn your MBA Degree be sure to check the prices of various places to find the best deal for you.

Choosing An Online MBA Degree

The Master of Business Administration is one of the most popular and sought-after degrees available today. As the world moves to an increasingly corporate and service-based economy, companies have an ever-growing need for business savvy and certain sets of technical skills. And an MBA-holder is likely to have those skills and savvy.

School accreditation is the most important factor to consider when deciding on an online MBA program. Proper accreditation could mean the difference between an online MBA degree that gets you a promotion and a degree that isn't worth the paper it's printed on. There are three types of accreditation agencies that are essential to consider when earning an MBA online: regional accreditation, professional accreditation, and distance learning accreditation.

1. Regional accreditation is your best bet. 2. Personal accreditation will make your online MBA stand out. 3. Distance Learning accreditation may not be accepted everywhere. 4. Any other type of accreditation will not be as important as the three listed above.

You can earn a general MBA degree, or choose a particular specialization depending on your strengths and career goals. Disciplines are available in technology, IT, human resources, administration, marketing, and accounting; all the aspects of a well-oiled business machine. All MBA degrees will ensure you have a comprehensive education in business.

Study Option: The mode of studying for an MBA is also evolving. The executive MBA allows students to work and study at the same time, arranging a mixture of classes, meetings, online work, and individual tutoring. A marketing MBA may allow you to prove your business credentials without having to go through the process of working in junior level positions. Since this qualification can be used across a broad range of sectors, your employability should be good.

Executive MBA: An Executive MBA is a graduate degree designed for executives, managers and other leaders in business. An executive master of business administration degree may have some similarities to other business programs but is carefully focused for its intended participants. Executive master of business administration degree programs are designed specifically for people who are currently in business but who wish to further their education. Students can usually complete their executive MBA degree within two years even when working full time. The program of study for an executive master of business administration degree covers the full spectrum of business concepts with emphasis on integrating the areas together. Course topics include accounting, statistics, finance, marketing, and management and information technology.

Marketing MBA: A Marketing MBA is a master's degree program designed to give you the skills you need to successfully manage an organization. A marketing MBA could be right for you, if you wish to gain business skills and need to have a good foundation in the arts of merchandizing and creating a desire for goods or services. An MBA degree online can create the expertise, experience, and knowledge needed to have a competitive edge in today's job markets. Getting a degree online is now much more convenient with the colleges and universities through expanding Internet options. The Internet is quickly changing the way those advancing their educations are studying, and the Internet is attracting thousands of students who want to return to school to further their experience and knowledge.

There are many different schools that offer MBA degrees online and each school has a different course of studies and requirement for completion. Those seeking degrees should investigate the limitless options that the Internet has brought in advancing educations, careers, and personal growth.

Of course, it is a good idea to investigate all that is available before committing to a specific school program. Potential students will want to make sure that any program that they are researching offers an MBA degree online that is accredited. Also, speak with academic counselors at various schools, getting information about the different requirements and estimated time tables involved. Be sure to look for hidden costs also. Why not start today and investigate getting an MBA degree online.

Earn Your MBA Degree Online

Earning an MBA degree online is becoming easier and easier. Many colleges are offering partial and full on-line programs for people to earn their graduate school degrees. In the past people who wanted to earn an MBA had to stop working or switch to part-time employment in order to attend campus classes. But today earning an MBA has become much more convenient.

On and Off Campus

Campus programs have started expanding and offering degrees online. Schools that used to just offer on-campus programs are seeing the need for an expanded degree program. With on-line courses the colleges can deliver low cost, high quality education, to a wider student base.

School courses that are delivered in an on-line setting are just as educational as the on-campus classes. Many courses offer tele-class lessons or other virtual classroom venues. These school courses are usually packed to capacity because they have become so popular.

Each course is going to offer a unique way of learning for the students that take the class. Some courses will be easier to work through an on-line program than other courses will. Also, some students learn differently and will not be able to learn through an on-line course. Each student needs to evaluate their ability to stick with an on-line degree program before paying tuition fees.

New Types of Colleges

There are also colleges that mainly cater to the on-line student. This type of school may offer some community courses but most of their students take courses on-line. These types of schools offer undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate degree programs to their students.

Some programs can be completed entirely online, while other programs may require some occasional on-campus class work. Some popular degrees that are offered include bachelors of Education, psychology, business, education, and MBA graduate degrees.

Ten years ago the only way to earn an MBA was to try to squeeze classes in during the day or work all day and take night classes. But even then there were not very many programs that were able to accommodate working adults.

How They Compare

On-line college programs can be offered inexpensively compared to regular college tuition because the teacher can administer the course right from their desk. Even though the tuition is less expensive than a four-year university some low-income families may still not be able to afford to attend college...even if it is an online program.

To help make these types of programs an inexpensive alternative, most on-line universities offer the same federal student loans that other universities offer. These federal subsidized and unsubsidized loans and grants make an affordable online college degree a possibility for almost any family.

Online programs are definitely worth looking into if you are considering going back to school to get your degree. They are convenient and offer you the ability to earn your MBA while staying at your current job. Most programs are offered on a continuous basis which makes them even more convenient to enroll in.

An affordable online college degree is not a myth! For help finding an inexpensive, convenient and quality higher education option that is right for you please visit us at: http://www.affordableonlinecollegedegree.com/

MBA. It is more than a degree.

The Master of Business Administration is a postgraduate that is internationally recognized as a business management qualification. But it is more than an academic degree. A good mba is preparation for business management involving a combination of practical training and theoretical learning. The MBA has a unique result-focused and interdisciplinary approach, which makes it popular among the worldwide business establishment. It is not seen as just a degree, it is more of a lifestyle and a philosophy. Some people, particularly those tasked with recruiting for companies in the UK, seem to lump the MBA with other academic degrees. The MBA is actually a generic program allowing for a high amount of flexibility. The core component of the MBA features courses in finance, economics, accounting, marketing, organizational behaviour, operational management (logistics), business law, information management and technology and human resource management amongst others.

The elective component of the course allows students the freedom to select the courses that particularly interest them. Thus you have the core courses to address the needs of every manager then the elective courses that address the individual's professional needs. Different programs offer different electives, but you should find that each course would focus either on a particular aspect of business administration, or a region in the world, or a particular industry. Thus a student may be choosing from e-commerce, entrepreneurship, business in Europe, derivatives, business and the environment, and many others.

An MBA course sees students coming from different cultural and professional backgrounds coming together to share experiences and expertise in a highly stimulating learning environment. What is an MBA course? A passport to a successful management career, the Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree is the most popular postgraduate degree in the world. Each year in the USA more than 90,000 MBAs graduate, and in the UK more than 10,000 graduate each year. This makes the United Kingdom the highest producer of MBAs outside the USA.

Differences in MBA courses around the world are many. For instance, in the USA, the courses are generally two years in length, but the majority of courses in Europe take twelve months to complete, although that varies from 10 months to two years. There are thousands of universities and colleges all over the world that offer the MBA at the moment. Lifestyles are changing and globalisation is increasing, which means that these schools have to offer more flexible learning methods. For instance, you can study full-time where you take that time off work to go into business school every day. Part-time courses allow you to work full-time whilst taking your MBA course either in the evenings or over weekend modules. Even though these can take up to five years it does mean your life is busier as you are working full time in addition to lectures and coursework. Then there is distance learning - which can be done through CD-Roms, printed materials and even fully online - whichever way suits you the most. Whatever type of course deliver you are looking for, the right programme is out there. You can even get your MBA with your employer as they offer the course as part of their internal career development programme. Strong alliances have been developed with management colleges and business schools so that top talent can be developed and retained. However, there is a massive diversity in quality between programmes, you need to make the right choice to ensure that your time and your money is not wasted. This is why you must take the time to research MBA courses as much as possible. Employers do care where you got your MBA from, so make sure the school is accredited (AMBA, EQUIS, AACSB) and ask around to ascertain their reputation. Get it right and it is the perfect avenue to making more money

How to use Economic News For IIM MBA GD-PI Topics

One of the crucial aspects of preparation for the IIM GD/PI round of admission
test is a good understanding of the economy.

Now you only need to know whats happening in the economy and dont have to be
an expert at economics which is a separate field of study itself, unless you are
a Commerce or Economics graduate. The most burning issue facing non Commerce candidates
such as engineers and arts graduates is understanding the basic information of the
economy. Here are some tips that may help.

1) Break down the economy: Prepare smart- that's the key. First break down the
economy into its components. You can start by focussing on 15 topics - Construction,
Exports, Foreign Exchange, Agriculture, etc...identify 3 topics from each 15 to
get started

2) Don't immediately read the Editorial section: Most people choose to start
by going into the heavy duty editorial section. That is best for those who have
been following the issue for some time and already have a good idea of the issue.
Start with your 45 chosen topics and skim through the newspapers to identify the
3 most latest news related to that topics

3) Now you have 135 pieces of information on specific areas of the economy. Now
all you need to do is prepare these 135 pieces of information and get a group of
5 people to conduct mock GD and Personal interviews. Ask your mom or dad to supervise
to make it serious and add that element of pressure to perform well

Through repetition you will hone your skills and be able to remember the topics
that you have selected without having to keep written notes. Do remember to practice
as that will drive down that information to long term memory.

Strong preparation is the key to success in the

IIM Group Discussion and Personal Interview
, get started and you will gain
the confidence on a vast number of

Do You Need an MBA to Run a Successful Business, or Vision?

Is a strong vision for your business more important than an MBA? Should you go
to school or go to the school of hard knocks?

When the cost for an MBA ranges from $15,000 to $50,000, you need to consider
whether the traditional MBA program will meet your needs as a business owner.

First, please keep in mind that most business school programs are not designed
to teach you how to start a business, but how to contribute to running and managing
an existing large company. Starting a business from scratch requires a completely
different skill set.

So, why even bother going to business school?

Business school can provide you with some very strong theoretical skills, including
the ability to read and understand financial statements, as well as understanding
market trends and economic theory. Most importantly, an MBA program can help you
develop relationships with mentors and others that can help you build your business
down the road.

It can also give you an inflated image of your entrepreneurial abilities.

The last thing I want to do is discourage anyone form pursuing an education,
as a college education can be a valuable tool. If you are pursuing a career, an
MBA has been proven to help you command a higher salary.

Unfortunately, I have seen absolutely no correlation between educational level
and success when it comes to running a business. In fact, in the last ten years
I have spent helping business owners grow their businesses, I have never found a
college education to make a difference in business success.

The deciding factor in the success or failure of a business owner has absolutely
nothing to do with education level.

It is the strength of the business vision.

Successful business owners have a plan. They know what they want for themselves
and their business, and they do whatever it takes to make it happen. They have a
strong vision in front of them at all times-a picture in their minds of where there
business will be next year, five years from now, and beyond.

If they don't know how to read a financial statement or run a marketing campaign,
they find someone who can. They don't let education or a lack of education stand
in the way of growing their business.

They just do whatever it takes.

Creating a successful business is rarely a straight path. Two steps forward and
one step back is normal. Business owners with vision are the ones that don't get
caught in those backwards steps. In fact, they tend to brush them off quickly, refocus,
and take a bigger step forward. Successful business owners are not afraid to admit
they don't know everything.

This is not a trait of the typical MBA graduate.

Successful business owners are always looking to make themselves and their business
better, faster and stronger.

If you want a career in business, by all means pursue an MBA. If you have a personal
goal to get your Masters Degree, an MBA is a great choice. Just don't be surprised
to find that you have a lot more to learn when it comes to being an entrepreneur.

Find a mentor, or a business group that can help you along the way. The best
teachers are the ones that have already created a successful business. Regardless
of how you pursue your education, just remember to never stop learning.

Success is a journey, not a goal. Your business vision is your guidebook.

Use it.

these strategies earlier in my formative years. I am taking steps now to consistently
apply these exercises, affirmations, and action steps in putting my financial future

mutual funds, as well as the consistency and reliability of my financial advisor.
I want to initiate a workable budget to assure that my purchasing is in line with
maintaining my financial independence. The helpful resources at the end of the book
provide an important internet listing for additional material for further study
and future reading. Invaluable!

The smart money strategies found in "Get Your Assets in Gear!" are especially
important to readers who find themselves swallowed up in credit card debt, those
wanting to unlearn childhood misconceptions imitated from misguided parents, or
for newly married couples seeking harmony in their financial planning. The book

MBA Admissions For Low GMAT Or GPA Applicants

Are your numbers really so bad? It may be difficult to find average GPAs, but if you have a 2.6, you know it's low for almost any MBA program. Roughly, except for the most elite schools, a GPA below 3.0 warrants a deliberate effort to counterbalance.

Looking closely at your numbers.

Which numbers are low - GMAT, GPA, or both? If only one of these numbers is low, at least the other number demonstrates your academic ability. Some people are simply not great standardized test-takers. A low GPA often is attributable to the simple fact that college students are still growing up. In fact, a 3.0 GPA that starts out below 3.0 and trends upward consistently, with the final semester or two in the 3.5 range or higher, is not nearly as worrisome as a GPA that trends in the opposite direction.

If both numbers are low, how do they break down? If your GMAT quant score was high and you had solid grades in quant courses in college, that's a plus, because MBA adcoms always look for evidence that the applicant can handle the mathematics involved. If it's the quant side that drags the numbers down, it's more of a problem. The point is, read the nuances of your scores. Assess and interpret the picture that emerges. Then develop an application strategy to address that issue. Low numbers vary significantly in the impression they create, depending on the details.

Addressing low quant scores.

Register at your local community college ASAP for calculus and/or statistics if you haven't taken them -- and earn an A! If you earned a D or F in other quant-oriented courses, consider re-taking them as well. If you have time to take additional quant-oriented courses, such as finance or accounting, it will help even more. In your essays, highlight quantitative aspects of your work to demonstrate proficiency. If you have some say in what your recommenders write, ask them to confirm your quantitative ability.

Addressing low verbal scores.

Consistently low verbal scores will raise a red flag. Your essays are the ideal place to neutralize this concern. They should be expressive and flawlessly written. You also should select examples and anecdotes that highlight your communication skills. So excellent essays are a must. Looking beyond the essays, ask recommenders to comment positively on your verbal skills. Finally, you can take a course at a local college that involves substantial writing, either business related or other.

Evaluating the numbers in the context of your demographic profile.

You must first understand your demographic profile vis-a-vis the MBA applicant pool for your chosen school(s). Regardless of how rare a demographic profile may be, an adcom will not admit an applicant if it believes he cannot handle the coursework. Beyond that, it's really a matter of supply-and-demand. Demographics encompass your ethnicity, nationality, gender, and industry background. It is well known that Indian engineers and computer scientists with high numbers are over-represented in the applicant pool, as are white and Asian male investment bankers with high numbers.

Using your essays to counteract the low numbers.

With low numbers, your first hurdle is demonstrating you're qualified. Your low scores may now be "understandable," but they won't excite the adcom, so your work experience must. "Mine" your work experience for all evidence of accomplishment, leadership, and impact. Show through anecdotes and examples that you are a person who makes a difference on the job beyond what's expected. Exceptional contribution and leadership as a volunteer or in another non-work activity also serve this purpose, though with the low numbers, strong work experience is still essential.

Selecting the right schools.

All schools do not give the "pillars" of your application - GMAT, GPA, work experience - the same weight. Columbia and Stanford will put more weight on the GMAT and/or GPA than others. Some will be more interested in the specific qualities, experience, and demographic factors you bring than will others. Select programs that meet your learning needs. Then focus on those that take a more holistic view of applicants and/or those that favor your distinguishing characteristics.

The optional essay.

If your numbers are below the 80% range, they warrant an acknowledgement and an explanation. Similarly, if extenuating circumstances caused the low numbers, those circumstances are an important part of your profile. The optional essay is often the place to make these statements. If you write the optional essay, make it short and straightforward. Provide a brief explanation, take responsibility, and focus on evidence of your talents that counters the impression made by the low stats.

Creating a thoughtful strategy to counteract the effect of low numbers can transform you from a non-viable to a viable applicant at the schools of your choice. However, it's up to you to show the adcom that the numbers don't define you.

Is a Distance Learning MBA Program For You?

Distance learning programs are becoming more and more readily available from universities all over the United States. There are some universities that are dedicated solely to distance learning programs, which are usually completely based on the World Wide Web. Class presentations, delivery, and even assignments and projects are done via the web. Of course, distance learning MBA programs are not going to be ideal for everyone, because of their distant nature.

Human beings have different learning styles; distance learning students have to be able to apply themselves and manage their own time effectively. This is the best style of learning for people who are self starters and do not need as much motivation or individualized attention as other people. There is not an advantage to either one; depending on how you like to learn and be taught, distance learning MBA programs or traditional MBA programs might suit you differently.

If you are thinking about going into a distance learning MBA program or something similar, be sure to consider it from all angles. These distance learning courses are usually a bit more expensive than other courses, and class availability is a bit more limited than it is with the traditional learning approaches. However, the benefits of obtaining a distance learning MBA degree are endless when it comes to the flexibility and freedom that goes along with it.

To find the distance learning program that is best for you, do plenty of research beforehand. There are some universities, like the University of Phoenix that are completely based on distance learning programs and you must pay for this convenience. If you can get into a distance learning program for your MBA at one of the colleges or universities near you and perhaps attend a few seminars or sessions a semester, you could probably save quite a bit of money on your class credits.

Is a distance learning MBA program for you? You will never know until you try; if the freedom is something that might help you find the time and devotion necessary to get through an MBA course of study, then it is something that should at least be seriously considered. Put some time and effort into your distance learning MBA program, and you will reap all of the benefits of a traditional education and more.

Why You Don't Need An MBA to Make It in Business (In Fact It Could Hurt You)

A common reason people choose NOT to go into business is that they feel they don't have the right training or background.

There's this myth out there that if you haven't studied accounting, marketing, and operations management on some college campus somewhere with vines growing on buildings and professors in tweed jackets, you don't have what it takes to succeed.

Bah! Humbug!

Jim McCann, the CEO of 1-800-Flowers, built a billion dollar a year business, and his background was that he had worked for 14 years as a social worker in Brooklyn at a group home for teenage boys.

So how does a guy who's working in a group home as a social worker end up as one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the country, with no formal training or background in business? He used what he had.

What do I mean?

He said, quote, "I learned more from those 10 young teenage boys in that group home, who would have been in jail if they didn't come to us, than I could have in a 100 years at the Harvard MBA program."

If you've never been around a group home for troublesome teenage boys, you might imagine what it'd be like. Things tend to break more often, "disappear" more often, fights break out, drugs, despair...it can be pretty ugly. And all you're trying to do is help them see the value and worth in their lives.

But Jim soon found out that teenage boys are about as excited about "counseling" sessions as they are about math class. So as things went from bad to worse in the home, Jim just about threw in the towel.

He was afraid not only for the boys, but for himself. As the group home was run by an order of monks, Jim went to resign...but the monk in charge of the order had another suggestion: to look at those around him who seemed to be successful at this work, and copy what they were doing.

So what were they doing?

FIRST, they always came to work with a plan, whereas Jim always seemed to show up and just react to what was going on around him.

And SECOND, he realized that he was trying to develop a relationship with the whole group...10 guys.

The problem is, you don't have relationships with groups. You only have relationships with people one on one.

So Jim didn't quit. Instead, he found opportunities in the problems around him.

And one of those problems you're probably familiar with if you've spent time around teenagers, is the problem of keeping food in a kitchen cabinet for any length of time without it disappearing. So Jim decided that he was going to build a pantry for the food, with a lock on the door.

And sure enough, as soon as he started building it, two of the boys jumped in and helped him. And that's when the magic happened!

Because instead of just talking about the things necessary to build the pantry, Jim and the boys talked about girlfriends...school...life on the street. In other words, they CONNECTED.

Soon, Jim and the boys were working on projects all over the house...planting a garden, building a fence, repairing the roof...and by working together, side-by-side, he was able to break through, share, learn, understand, and, ultimately, to make a difference in their lives.

These skills he later took with him to 1-800-FLOWERS, which is a whole other story in and of itself.

You can read about it in his book STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES, LESSONS ON BUSINESS AND LIFE.

It was the PEOPLE skills he developed in connecting with people, understanding them, and motivating them towards positive change that he applied in building his billion-dollar business. In other words, his ability to break through and influence others positively.

If you are currently NOT massively successful as an entrepreneur, it has nothing to do with your background, college degrees, or anything else. IT HAS TO DO WITH FINDING THE UNTAPPED POTENTIAL YOU ALREADY POSSESS...and unleashing it, to build relationships towards positive change...in their lives, and in the world.

THAT's ultimately what we're talking about here in our business: helping you master your sphere of influence, and expanding it, to create positive change in others' lives, and in the world.
