Distance Learning MBA Programs - Closing the Gap

Thanks to the Internet, distance learning MBA programs have now become a mainstay
of furthering an individual's education. Those looking to earn their Master's degree
in a time and cost effective manner now have every opportunity to do so. With a
curriculum that is every bit as solid as an onsite college, one can gain all the
skills they need to push a career to unbelievable heights.

A Master's degree in Business Administration is easily one of the most sought
after certifications for those in the business world. Many are daunted by the heavy
price tag that can come with such an endeavor; but when considering the salary of
those with this degree under their belt, it is easy to see an MBA is well worth
the investment.

Deciding to pursue a Master's degree can be time consuming, especially for the
busy working adult. That is why distance learning MBA programs make perfect sense.
No matter where one is in the world, there is an opportunity to attend a top business
college without the hassle of travel or relocation.

Earning this type of degree is often cost effective as well. With none of the
added extras that come with attending an onsite campus, students can expect to pay
only for the resources they use. Classes are often broken up into small units called
modules that are easy to follow and self-explanatory.

At the same time, earning a Master's degree online still offers a good amount
of cyber classroom instruction for students. Teachers and lecturers often use webcams,
chat rooms, forum boards and even online interactive whiteboards to communicate
classroom concepts over long distances. Students can stay in touch with their instructors
via email, chat or even phone.

Those who obtain their Master's degree in Business Administration open up a world
of opportunity for themselves. It has been found that there are simply more options
for the individual with an MBA than those with extensive years of experience alone.
Individuals already employed in the business world frequently see a number of doors
on their career path swing wide open.

Distance learning MBA programs are also the preferred method of learning for
a majority of companies that offer tuition reimbursement programs to employees.
Not only is it cost effective; individuals can keep their regular schedules without
missing too much in the way of valuable work time. This makes the MBA even more
obtainable for even the busiest working adult.

No matter what the field, an MBA can prove quite advantageous. Those working
in finance, marketing, non-profit organizations and even personal business can benefit
greatly with this knowledge backing them all the way. The MBA can even be useful
for those in government jobs as well.

Before doing anything, smart individuals will ask themselves what qualities make
them a good candidate for an MBA program. The basic qualities of someone who might
be good for an MBA program are that of honest people who enjoy working as a team
as well as the many aspects of leadership.

When opting for this type of program, it is also important to check out a number
of online MBA programs before applying to any one school. One should ensure that
the Master's degree a student earns is fully recognized. Legitimate institutions
should accredit an online course. Any offers for financial aid may be rescinded
if a program cannot show it is accredited.

The career opportunities that can be achieved with distance learning MBA programs
are nearly impossible to pass up. Never before has there been a time when earning
a Master's degree could be so advantageous in both time spent and potential income
earned.

To MBA, or not to MBA - Is that the Question

I was attending a Seminar a short while ago being headed by Simon Woodroffe (the driving force behind Yo!Sushi). Simon is a very entertaining speaker and touched on an interesting idea. That idea was central to those people who consider that to be a true entrepreneur you need the prerequisite of a selection of qualifications. In this case, the difference between an MBA or, as Simon put it, ‘attending the University of Life' (a great expression). This prompted my own idea for today's ‘121 Tip'. Just out of interest, which one do you think he is more in favour of?

So, have you been looking to firm up your business skills by finally going for that MBA? Or thinking that you need to be more ‘qualified' before you take that extra step in the direction of your business success?

While I do advocate that you should attain to be an expert in your field, let's consider the qualifications that you need to be a lifetime member of the ‘University of Life':

As Entrepreneurs to be a member of this University here's what we agree to do:

  • Generate new ideas and imaginative solutions on a continual basis!
  • Encourage creativity in others. Inspire and empower your team out of their day to day complacency and motivate them to feel valued in your business.
  • Be aware of threats but focus on opportunity. Regularly look for signs of threat (either from inside or outside of your business) and rather than fearing it ask yourself: "Where is the potential in this threat and what to I need to do?"
  • Never accept the status quo ... ask yourself how you can ‘shake things up'. Just because your competition has always done things a certain way doesn't mean you follow the fold - especially if they're slowly going out of business!
  • Bring your ideas to life and provide forward-oriented goals and objectives for yourself and your team.
  • Take the word "can't," from your vocabulary. Realise that that barriers (real or imaginary) are simply temporary roadblocks and little ‘tests' that you can get around with some creative thinking.
  • It's easy to get knock backs in business and in life. Accept all your challenges with passion and enthusiasm.
  • Relish the opportunity to have your ideas challenged and debated, knowing that by engaging this process you and your team can turn a simple idea into a great idea.
  • Instead of saying "It won't work," ask the question, "How can we make it work?"
Now what ideas have sprung to mind from this timely tip? Pick just one and play with it - then remember that without action it's just another idea...

To Your Success,

Entirely Free MBA of Customer Relationship Management CRM

The non-profit Business Technology Open University - http://business-technology.us - offer a completely free MBA of Customer Relationship Management CRM. Its operations are supported by ads - content oriented - of companies, inside the texts of the lessons. However, Business Technology is totally independent and without any connection with any manufacturer or consultant.

This course MBA of Customer Relationship Management CRM teaches the foundations of the administration of companies on the relationship with its external world, with the use of the modern information technology CRM, and its goal is to give you a general vision on what is now the CRM level.

More and more in the next 5 years the companies will need a CRM Customer Relationship Management, that uses the new technologies (computers, Internet, communications, etc) in all types of relationships with the external world of the company.

The Course presents a general vision of each one of the angles of a CRM, the computer system that actuate in reciprocity directly with the customers through voice by phone (and recognition of the voice, if necessary) without human actions, for marketing, sales, several types of supports, accounts, etc. To be abbreviate, in any relationship with a customer or a potential customer, or suppliers, etc.

In recent research with IT Managers, 46% answered that the CRM is the number one in its lists of priorities for the period 2006/2007.

The CRMs principle is very clear, if a company takes care of its traditional assets with the use of a computer system as always happened, why not to use the computer system - less and less expensive and simultaneously more powerful - to take care of the great assets that are its customers, vendors, potential customers, etc., that is to say to take care of its external world?

In fact, it's a paradox that a company give absolute priority to its standard assets, managed by the computer system, and has never used the same computer system to take care of its other great assets that is its external world.

This open MBA of Customer Relationship Management CRM are only in English and by correspondence, with 2 to 5 lessons a week and they durations varies up to 5.5 months. In the total the Business Technology fre courses have 2,600 lessons and additionally more 11,000 complemental lessons, everything sent in e-mail attachments.

Why an MBA?

Is the MBA the right degree for everyone? The obvious answer should be...No! The MBA is not right for everyone. Although, I am an advocate of the MBA in general, there are certain specifics you should consider before pursuing this degree.

First and foremost, you need to know yourself and your career objectives. If the MBA does not seem like it will be a good fit, do not pursue it. I do not recommend going into any program unless you feel good about it. Just because the MBA is a great degree, does not mean it is right for you.

I will approach this question "why an MBA?" from both sides of the table...that is, the pros and the cons.

Pros - Why to get an MBA

There are many reasons why an MBA is a good choice. See the reasons below:

* The MBA is a very marketable masters degree. It is very well known and it seems to enjoy recognition all over. After receiving the MBA, you can put those initials after your name. Can you do that with a Master of Science degree?

* The MBA offers valuable management and business content. If you are new to business or even experienced, this degree has a lot to offer. You can learn functional skills and concepts that seem to be applicable into any industry or job.

* The MBA is very flexible. You can choose the program type (full time, part time, distance, etc). You can specialize or stay general. Depending on the program and the school, the MBA can be completed between 30 and 60 credits. All this, and you still get the same marketable degree.

Cons - Why NOT to get an MBA

There are also reasons why an MBA may not be a good choice. See the reasons below:

* Maybe you need extra specialization or you have a specific career goal. For example, a Master of Accounting (MAcc) is a common masters degree to prepare one for the CPA exam. In this case, the MBA may not be the best choice. In certain cases, if you are pursuing a PhD, there may be better choices.

* Maybe the MBA is too cost prohibitive. MBAs tend to cost more than other degrees. This is because of its recognition and marketability. Weight out the return on investment. This is good advice for any investment. You may have more options than you think, so look around at as many programs as you can.

* I have heard arguments that the MBA is so popular that it has become "watered down". This is a perspective from someone who thinks you can only receive a full-time, two-year MBA from a prestigious school. The way I see it, if you are going to earn a masters degree, get one that is recognizable.

Realize that this is a short list of pros and cons and it by no means comprehensive. It should get you thinking about why an MBA is right or why another choice may be better.

One final note...unless you get an MBA from the "top" 10 or 20 ranked business schools, it really does not matter where you get your MBA.

* A great career enhancer in many ways. It can help with career advancement as well as career changing.

* It provides a great potential for return on investment. Your earning power is likely to increase with this degree.

I hope some of these suggestions help to simplify the answer to the question "What is an MBA?". These are just the highlights of the MBA. As you can see, there are a lot of great aspects to the MBA degree.

A major consideration with regards to choosing an appropriate online MBA course is that of accreditation. There are many suspect MBAs vying for your business. The obvious ones to avoid are those offered by diploma mills. These are usually offered by distance but may appear on searches for online courses and will often give ridiculous credit for life experience and sometimes (but not often) require one written paper in order for you to be awarded an MBA.

For a worthless piece of paper, the prices are high: anywhere from a few hundred dollars to over a thousand dollars. These qualifications can be potential future embarrassments so you need to do your research as they often have names very close to legitimate universities.

There are unaccredited universities that offer high quality and recognized courses but for the most part unaccredited universities should be avoided. The best valued online MBA degrees are accredited degrees. Forty eight percent of American universities offer online degrees so finding an online course from a desirable university is easier than it ever has been. University is easier than it ever has been. While there are a number of universities who have become online degree specialists such as Phoenix University, other universities with superior reputations are also offering online programs.

Many online MBAs require residential schools. This can be difficult for some people so it needs to be factored in to your decision. You can sift through online MBA courses and find one that meets your needs and does not have residency requirements or you can look at the course offerings of local universities and see if they offer online MBA programs. At least if they are local, you do not have to deal with travel time and costs and you can probably get away with staying off campus. Furthermore, if you have any problems you will be able to make an appointment to talk to someone face to face.

The costs of online MBAs can be prohibitive. However, there are in fact a wide range of prices for MBA programs and you will have to do your research to find the best value MBA for your needs.

If you have had a solid background in business management, there are online MBAs that will take that into account and save you months of study. Some online MBAs will only take you twelve months if you have relevant prior learning and experience.

Most MBAs share common subjects including Financial Management, Marketing, Communication, Business Psychology, Economics and Commercial Law. Many MBAs also offer modules in Entrepreneurship, e-Business, Import/Export and skills for dealing with different governments. There are many more related possibilities. Universities are competing for your education dollar, so don’t assume that a course you looked at two years ago is the same.

The average price for an online MBA from an American university is $90,000 with many premium MBA programs offered through quality branded universities at around $120,000. However, you shouldn’t let these figures scare you. Some people have been able to obtain MBAs for as little as $20,000 particularly where they possessed substantial experience and/or prior learning that could be taken into account.

Phoenix University, Regis University and Kaplan University are very experienced in providing high quality online MBA degrees. Other universities who are gaining good reputations for their online courses are Duke University, University of Michigan and the University of Maryland. In fact, there are a great many of excellent universities offering online MBAs and it will take you some time to research their offerings.

It may well be worth your while to consider the high quality educational offerings available outside the United States. In particular, Australian Universities offer high quality, accredited degree programs at comparatively affordable prices. You can also take advantage of the exchange rate which at the time of writing provides you with an additional seventeen percent advantage. Compared to the cost of studying at American Universities, Australian education prices are significantly lower. These degrees are well accepted in the United States.

Finding the right online MBA to suit your needs will take a little time and effort. However, your effort will be well rewarded when you find a course that is the best value for money for your educational and career needs.

MBA, CPA, Law Degree; Is That Enough to Get the Job I Want?

What does it take to get a decent job in Corporate America at the Top of the food chain these days? Recently I met a bright up and coming young man in a city of about 250,000 and he was sitting there outside on the patio at the Starbucks Café and working on his laptop until they came to stack up all the tables. He was doing class assignments and we got to talking after that about his studies, ambitions and career goals.

It turns out he has a degree in business but wanted to go for another 38 units to get his MBA, but he also figured if he got an MBA with a strong financial background he might like to be a CPA. Interesting I thought, yes that indeed would put him up towards the top of the food chain indeed. We got to talking about another option to get a Law Degree and he said they were a dime a dozen like the MBAs and yet he felt that he was worried that someone else would end up with his dream job because they also had a Law Degree.

Wow, you know I later asked myself if it takes an MBA, CPA and Law Degree to Get the Job they want; then why not simply start your own company, build it up, go broke once and then do it again. Because basically you would be in the same spot with real life experience by then? Any way perhaps you might consider all this in 2006.
